How to Start Art Journalinng Part 2

Alright friends it's time to break out the paint, paper, glue and your journal of course! Today we are going to talk about backgrounds and for me this happens in two steps; gluing fun papers down and then painting my page! So let's get started!

The first thing I do is put down some pretty papers! They are mostly black and white and sometimes gold! The reason I choose black and white is so that it doesn't clash with anything I decide to put on top of it!

Then comes the gesso which I spread around the page with a palette knife

Next it's time to add paint! For the first page I simply spread paint all over the page with an old room key, it's a super fast way to get color on your page and it's fun too!

For the second page I used a paper towel! I know it sounds crazy but I love the effect you get from it! It's also super easy and fast!

So there you have it two ways to get your backgrounds done! They really take no time at all and give your page a great base to get started on! I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial and I will be back soon for the next installment of how to start art journaling!
