How to Start an Art Journal Part One!

image.jpg

This week I am going to share a mini series on how to start Art Journaling! Today I am sharing part one which is all about supplies! Stay tuned for part two and three later on this week!

Art journaling is something I fell in love with about eight years ago and honestly it started out as something completely different. I went from scrapbooking to altered books to art journaling. Art journaling was a really good outlet for me back then and that is the beauty of art is that it is so many different things to different people. I can tell you art journaling has been super rewarding and if you have been thinking about trying it, I say take the leap and just go for it! Here's some of my favorite supplies  to get you started;

Supplies

The first thing you need is a journal, there are so many different kinds out there and I have used just about every kind, here is my current collection!

Next is paint and I have a bit of everything but these are my fave! I love heavy body acrylic paint! It's thicker and creamier than regular acrylic paint! Next is spray ink, my personal fave is actually fabric spray paint! It comes in the best colors and isn't super watery! Next is just your average acrylic paint Lukas is my favorite brand (if you love watercolor their watercolor paints are amazing!) but these paints are a bit thicker and come in such fun colors! Last is my all time favorite and its fluid paint, it's sort of like watercolor just very color rich I love love it!!!

I use a variety of brushes and pens! The foam brushes are 50 cents a piece and are great for making patterns and fun marks! I love micron pens and distress markers! Pencils and a variety of brushes are super useful!

I also like to have a variety of papers to collage with I love anything from magazines to tissue papers to scrapbook paper to that beautiful handwriting paper (it's my grandmas writing from her high school days) I also really love maps, book paper and doilies!

Some other random fun things to have are stencils, washi tape, stamps and ink, there are so many fun things you can get you could go crazy!

Alright that is all for today! Get your supplies ready and stay tuned for part two later on this week!!
